The State of Utah doesn’t have enough medical personnel and the problem will likely only get worse. The health care problem in Utah would be even worse if it weren’t for a large amount of immigrants moving and working in Utah. From KSL.com:

Although the total number of health care jobs in Utah’s health care industry has declined, the state has seen a dramatic increase in the number of job postings. Between 2017 and 2021, online job postings increased 688% for anesthesiologists, 291% for dental hygienists, 90% for psychiatric technicians, 83% for sonographers, 46% for MRI technicians and 32% for dentists.

According to the article, immigrants are 9% of Utah’s population but 13% of physicians, 8% of pharmacy techs and 5% of dental hygienists. The Chamber of Commerce is fully aware of the situation and problem.

“For Utah to remain competitive and address critical shortages of physicians and other health care workers, it will be crucial to implement policies that not only attract and retain global talent that is complementary to the U.S.-born workforce, but that also build career pathways for immigrants who already call the state home,” the American Immigration Council report states.

Once again, the core plan to address labor issues in the State of Utah, much like other states, is to poach people from other states and incentive them to move to Utah.

According to NAR, Utah was a winner in 2022 to gain 12,898 people from other states but that amount of people is tiny compare to the 319,000 and 231,000 people Florida and Texas gained respectively.

Why not just educate more people? According to News Nation Now, Utah has under qualified teachers.
