A safe bank these days is as rare as a Kentucky carpenter but we’re not talking banks today, we’re talking labor shortages. From WSPDlocal6.com:
The number of skilled trade jobs is outpacing the supply of qualified workers to fill those positions, according to Industrial Skilled Trades. The staffing agency says most positions remain unfilled for an average of 24 days.
Water and carpentry may not seem like two things that would go together, but carpenter Charles Breedlove says his job takes him everywhere, even the water.

There is also a shortage of Girl Scout cookies and Kentucky labor shortages are partly to blame. From NBCNews.com:
Little Brownie Bakers announced the disruption in a Facebook post Thursday, saying that labor shortages, global supply chain issues and severe weather in Kentucky have caused delays.
“We share the frustration that some Girl Scout troops feel this cookie season,” the company said. “We are aiming to fulfill reorders in the upcoming weeks. Some cookies ordered online may be delivered by Girl Scout troops depending on their local Council’s inventory or shipped directly. As we work to get the cookies you need now, we are reviewing our processes and planning further improvements for next season.”

Kentucky also has a shortage of teachers but at least has recently signed a law to reduce state income tax so there is a bright spot.
With 10,000 baby boomers continuing to reach retirement age each and every day, we suspect Kentucky’s labor shortage problem will continue to grow.
