We wrote about our speculative ventures into some alternative drug stocks a few weeks ago in part because the world’s acceptance to alternative medicines is changing day by day. We have seen the rise of legalization of marijuana and other substances over the past few years and one of the driving factors has been the failure or traditional pharmaceuticals of dealing with the problem.
We came across this article published on December 1, 2021 written by Brad Badelt that describes a journey into seeking relief for cluster headaches after failing to find relief in traditional pharmaceuticals.
Over the years, I’ve visited countless neurologists, chiropractors, acupuncturists, and naturopaths. I’ve taken prescriptions and experimented with cleanses and diets. Nothing worked. Then I stumbled onto Clusterbusters, a popular message board created by a fellow sufferer, where people around the world could swap advice. There was one tip that was gaining traction: multiple posters were reporting that, after they had consumed magic mushrooms, their headaches had abruptly—miraculously—stopped.”

We also recently noted the growth in mental illness in the United States and as the population ages globally, the broader demographic also suffer greater bouts of mental illness.
Perhaps it’s a little bit of a “confirmation bias” that we came across this article shortly after we bought our stocks or perhaps the world is awakening to the reality of alternative plant based solutions to illnesses. In either event, we hope our investments turn out well but we do consider them speculative.
