We like to conduct research through as many unconventional lenses as possible and to that end, we periodically stroll through different internet sites like Reddit.com to see what people are discussing that may lead to the next big investment idea.

We came across this Reddit thread in Antiwork subreddit that made the case for the collapse of the U.S. healthcare system. The interesting thing about the thread wasn’t so much the initial post but all of the subsequent comments from actual workers from lab techs to nurses to others in healthcare all piling on about the growing problem of low wages, high pressure and limited career options that are driving many to look for jobs elsewhere.

With 10,000+ baby boomers retiring each day exacerbating the covid labor shortage problem, we wonder if health care will have serious labor problems moving forward. In What’s Happening With Hourly Wages, T-Rex Will Eat First we made the point that large deep pocket corporations will slurp up the best people from the lower tier wage people leaving any organization without deep pockets with limited labor options.

In addition to the U.S. Health Care system potentially collapsing, we do wonder if the airline ecosystem will survive. There is a shortage of 40,000 pilots now and the problem is growing as more baby boomers retire or age out of service with tops at age 65 and right now some airlines are offering double pay to keep crews in planes!

We will keep an eye on this issue throughout the year and report back on some findings. Right now, we are still examining the boomer demographic and formulating an investment strategy around the “boomer sickness” ecosystem. We’ve identified companies that serve key ailments such as knee and hip replacements as well as those that provide pharmaceuticals to the elderly according to medicare and medicaid.

Stay tuned and stay solvent.
